gavel Photo contest guideline questions

I'm hoping to find out what the rules are for altering photos in the various contests.
Some of the newcomers may not know these.

Instead of backtracking into each one and looking through many threads to try and find this info
I'm wondering if it could be put here for all of the participants to have.

Invasives
Insects
PAP
SAP
Photo of the month-July

I hope it's still kept simple so everyone can join in on the fun.
I think it would be good to mention the ending dates as well.
PAP and SAP say 90 days but when is this up?

I think we should be able to alter the photos as much as we would like...

take your old film (film, what is film?) photos to two different photo processing places and compare the pictures, they will be different...

I have done this! There was a A HUGE difference in the color quality.......
I will never bring my film to one of them ever again!
I have switched to digital a few months ago and will not go back to my old reliable 35 MM ever again. Poor baby.
It's so much more fun doing it this way! Lot cheaper too.

As far as altering things. There are a lot of people (Like me) who don't know how to go beyond color adjustments or cropping.

I don't think we'd want to intimidate people away from adding photos if they don't know how to do these sort of things.
Isn't that what this sight wants? More people, teaching, learning, growing and exploring?

They can still WOW us in the other threads with them. And I DO like them. They are gorgeous!

suunto provided rules for the Insect/Arthropod Photo Contest.
Quote:
All that aside, I propose that the contest guidelines be amended as follows:
(1) The deadline for entries shall be 30 October 2009.
(2) Alteration/enhancement of original digital images shall be limited to cropping and contrast adjustment (equivalent to ‘dodging and burning’; techniques I must admit some familiarity with...).

I will determine a similar deadline for the SAP contest and post it...well, I'll post it in the thread anyway. If there is another place that would be better, please let me know.

All right Suunto
We've got our first reply..........
Looks like no color alterations can be done in his contest.

Thank you - thank you - for a fun and easy contest we all enjoy so much.

I hadn't thought about alteration or enhancement of images, but I'm not sure I understand what you are asking, havalotta. Are you saying that you would like to alter images that you have already posted/submitted?

No............I don't want to alter any I've entered already.
It's just that there are so many ways that you can make your photos better than they really are by adjusting and tweaking things.
Some are so advanced in knowledge that they can even make their photos look 3-D if they want to.
I was just wondering what the contests here allowed. Maneuvers such as these may limit those from entering if they think they are outdone from the start.

Images that you have already posted on the forum, joepyeweed? Or that you have altered prior to posting?
