I toss mine in the composter or straight into the raised bed. Right now I'm tossing it into a super huge garbage can since everything's frozen outside. This is my first year doing this and everything's working so far except having to store it in the garage over the winter. The garbage can takes up space and I keep forgetting it's there and I'm walking into it in the dark... the light switch is inconveniently located on the other side of the garage.

So far I've gone through a full cycle with two buckets. In both cases, I dumped the pickled organic matter into a trash bin waiting for... I don't know, August maybe when all the snow we got finally melts... I have also generated quite a bit of juice. For instance, I emptied the 2nd 5-gallon bucket today and collected between 2 and 3 liters of juice. I dumped it into some glass jars for now. But how can I use the juice come spring? I don't have a septic tank. I have a backyard, an dwarf apple tree, a fig tree and some vegetable garden beds. Do I just dilute the juice with water and dump it there? Any other possible uses? Thanks!

If I caught your question correctly, you dilute it and use it as liquid fertilizer for inside or outside plants.

"But how can I use the juice come spring? I don't have a septic tank. I have a backyard, an dwarf apple tree, a fig tree and some vegetable garden beds." Dilute it and use some yourself and share some with friends!!!

The site with the (original?) "extreme bokashi - make your own innoculant" info seems to be down for now.
Here's the info organized in a pdf http://bocashi.files.wordpress.com/2...composting.pdf also as an attachment audrey |

audrey> way cool you snagged that. I hate it when sites go **poof** and the info's gone.

ah... it was already gone but I caught the google cache. I had the info as such, but it's so much better to be able to post it as it really was, including his pictures. I did put it in a the logical order, the way it came up on the web drove me crazy.

I have norway rats visiting my garden and wondering if i will have more problems with them if i put content of basket in my garden.
Any experience in this area? Also, did anybody use spoiled fruit preserves instead of molasses? |

Ahhh... you are loaded with rats. We used to be too. Try that ratzapper if you can. I think rats are attracted to just about anything we do so adding the contents isn't going to make a difference if you've already got rats. I used the molasses.

We've got rats too, plain old Scottish ones (what are Norway rats?) and I'm struggling to find a way not to 'encourage' them near the house. I've had to stop digging my fermented Bokashi scraps directly onto my beds as the rats were digging it all up and then burrowing through the whole thing to the point where it looked like they were about to take up residence there. Then I tried putting my bokashi scraps in a compost bin and the rats burrowed into that as well. Now I've put wire around the compost bin and I'm still putting it in there. Anyone got any advice about what to do about the rats?
