A terrific summary of the needs of a biodiverse region. It nicely covers invasives, fragmentation, surburban sprawl, impermiability of created landscapes, and many other critically and vitally important ecological issues. It is targeted toward New Jersey, but it is applicable to anywhere.

One issue it addresses, a most highly controversial one, is the damage done by roaming house cats. A quote:

"House cats kill
more than
a billion
birds,
small mammals,
amphibians, and
reptiles in the
U.S. each year."

This is such an emotional issue for folks that one learns to use diplomacy when even broaching the subject. But I wonder. How many members here have free roaming cats that they own???????

What You Can Do
Quote:
Everyone has a role to play in meeting the challenges of the biodiversity crisis, i.e., the accelerated loss of animals, plants, and habitats caused primarily by human activities. Even our everyday choices and purchases — things we might not give a second thought to — affect biodiversity. For example, the production and transport involved in a cup of coffee impacts myriad species, from invertebrates to birds to fish. However, it’s not necessary to turn your life upside down to make a difference. If we all commit to just one or two lifestyle choices that are more sustainable, over time this will have a cumulative and positive impact on the Earth’s biodiversity.
