Thanks for the suggestions, girls. I looked up the tobacco budworm/heliothis virescens and according to Wikipedia (not always reliable), they aren't in NC. Given how much tobacco we grow, I'm not sure I believe that! The Misogada is too shiny, I think, and hairless.

I didn't know caterpillars could change color with what they were eating. I'm going to find some much lighter color zinnias and see if pinkster changes to a lighter shade. In any case, I am keeping him for a bit to see what he turns into (or she, I don't want to be sexist here.)

Swamp thing, that is an amazing photo of the red admiral on the birch. Really beautiful.

Who me? Forget to do something? Never! All right, I fixed it. However, I did introduce myself, call y'all "y'all", and not infrequently refer to NC in posts so you might have had some idea where I lived... Although I always look under everyone else's avatar when it is relevant, so you are right and I should have noticed it wasn't under mine.

I still think it is odd that the number one tobacco producing state in the US doesn't have tobacco hornworms. I am going to put my caterpillar on the bug ID site and let suunto tell me what it is.

Meanwhile, on another subject, I think Goldilocks lives in my blue mistflower, since she left her three bears...
