How pretty!
You know...I saw something like that about a week ago here... Kind of reminded me of the yellow swallowtails in a way, only dark. Hadn't the camera in hand at the time and off and running so missed the opportunity then to check it out later. Wasn't so blue though...more black

We have had relatively few swallowtails this year but more monarchs than usual. Every milkweed in the yard (save a weedy vining milkweed that periodically tries to strangle some shrubs) has been defoliated. I counted 11 monarch cats on a single plant this week and had to relocate the last two to honeyvine milkweed because there was nothing else left.

Raised a few Monarchs this year. 5 so far with 3 more to hatch this Sunday, and then 2 caterpillars that have yet to do anything.
