Eastern Comma, note the C's or "commas" on the under side of the wings.

I have those too, though none yet this season. Do you also get questionmarks? I never knew butterflies came with punctuation until I moved to,the east coast.

Yes I do. Question Marks look very similar looking from above. Below the wing their textures is smoother and the C shape that you see on the comma above has a break in it like a ? but sometimes it also looks like a semicolon ;

Great shots!

Very clear picture of the "commas"--thank you. Very informative.

I think I spotted one here the other day--that or a question mark. I'm really not confident in my butterfly identifying...and this one was flitting all around, clearly on a mission...I believe it was searching for a host plant on which to lay its eggs.

Even more punctuation marks!

I am famous for using semicolons; in truth, I over use them.
