Hey, he is pretty cute! Nice capture.

Why did "Which way did he go!? Which way did he go!?" just go through my head? (Does anyone else remember the cartoon sheepdog that I'm thinking of?)

A dorsal view would be helpful here - it could be either an American dagger (Acronicta americana; Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) - see http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_ccWC_qkHkY...go+%287%29.JPG
or a hickory tussock moth (Lophocampa caryae; Lepidoptera:Erebidae) - see http://www.forestryimages.org/images...12/0488007.jpg

Sorry about that.... when I tried to get a dorsal view by repositioning the stem.... I musta had hand shake because those photos didn't turn out. It's not a hickory tuccosk moth though.... I know those and those are striped down their backs like a skunk so I'm pretty sure you pegged it out the gate as an American dagger!!! Thank you thank you thank you. I've never seen 1 by me. Sure was a pretty cat!
