Default The Botany of Desire By Michael Pollan

Amazon.com: The Botany of Desire: A Plant's-Eye View of the World (9780375760396): Michael…

The book is broken up into 4 sections.
Desire: Sweetness/ Plant: The Apple
Desire: Beauty/ Plant: The Tulip
Desire: Intoxication/ Plant: Marijuana
Desire: Control/ Plant: The Potato

It is a mix of botany, history and humor. The first 2 chapters I found very interesting. Johnny Appleseed and the adaption of the apple to the American continent. The rise and fall of Tulipmania in 1637 Holland. The third bored me. But the last chapter about genetic engineering potatoes was very compelling. What they do to the average grocery store bond potato is frighting. It growen in soil sterilized of all organisms. Then doused with fungicides, herdicides, insecticides and fertilizers.
I already eat organic apples and grapes, now I'm adding potatoes to the list. Heck! I throwing the list out and buying all organic or growing it myself!

Yes I loved the PBS special. So I thought I'd read the book.
The PBS special has all the facts and science.
The books has the facts and science with personality.
