Headed out of our cloudy weather and went down to Dunkirk Harbor, Lake Erie, and then farther south to Chautauqua Lake.

Very nice Tundra swan Sage! Over the holidays at my in-laws on Sandusky Bay I saw several large flocks of Tundras fly over They are really quite amazing to see.

Since this is the first year we are trying to learn ducks, ID-ing them is not so easy but fun. These gorgeous creatures are Long-tailed Ducks! The second shot is a female; the others are males, in winter plumage.

Interesting. I learned these ducks as Oldsquaws when I used to study birds. Great photos! These ducks are some of my favorites. I love their call. Check out this. Long-tailed Duck, Sounds, All About Birds - Cornell Lab of Ornithology

Speaking of waterfowl, when we drove to Colorado over the thanksgiving holiday, we stopped in Kearney, Nebraska for the night. That evening with the sun setting, the sky was filled with waterfowl. Migrating ducks and geese. I would have loved to know which species but it was impossible to tell. Huge flocks flying over and so much noise. The birds were all over the sky. It was SO cool!

A flock of snow geese, maybe a hundred individuals, flew overhead while we were at Pea Island. It was amazing!

I realized I never posted my bird photos from Little St Simons Island, Georgia from October, so here are a few...

Thanks, Sage. I am trying to branch out from bugs to birds. They are more challenging because they farther away and won't sit still!
