Breeding barn owls in Cambridgeshire - Telegraph
This is one of those happy stories we need to read sometimes amidst the bad news we're often inundated with. Though it takes place in Britain, it could be here in the U. S., considering the species that are involved. "For the barn owl, the intensification of agriculture and the then “island conservation” policies (in the form of isolated nature reserves) of the major conservation bodies made their return to the general countryside unlikely. So the Countryside Restoration Trust was launched in 1993 with the purchase of 20 acres now named Telegraph Field, as it was bought mainly with money donated by Telegraph readers. The farm has grown to nearly 450 acres in size, including 142 acres bought with help from the Heritage Lottery Fund."
