Default Northern Harrier

I had the good fortune to be able to release a rehabbed northern harrier two weeks ago. She was so beautiful!

Wonderful! The Northern Harriers and the Short-eared Owls favor the same prey and same territory. I got shots of the Harriers this past week as well. There are three harriers near the roosting, hunting area of the eleven SEOWs. I'll post them soon too.
What a fantastic experience that was for you! I've been at rescues and releases, mostly of Peregrine falcons.

Sage,
What a beautiful bird! Have you determined the sex/age of this bird? It appears to be a juvenile male, but I am not expert of harriers.

I think it's the female who is browner and the male is grayer. From the pix and descriptions I could find on Cornell.

Great shots of the eagles!

hava, the clutched talons is common, especially when perched they stand on one leg and the other may be pulled up almost out of sight. He may be clutching something.

I've watched them hold up a leg too. It's almost as if they're shifting their weight back and forth like we do.
