Lots of racket at work today as a nest of Carolina Wrens fledged and tried to learn to fly. The nest was in the roof over a second story deck, and the birds had to fly up over the walls to get out.

Here's one of the parents watching the proceedings

Looks like you had a nice break at work today. Congratulations on the fledglings.

While one was climbing the walls and screens,

this one couldn't seem to get out of the corner and fly over the wall. I finally picked him up and tossed him, and he flew about thirty feet to a tree branch. He hung there for a minute or so then flew to the ground where the other three little wrens were, and the parents.

It was a nice break, the "boss" (my brother) stopped to watch some of this too. It went on for a few hours.

Lib, yes, it belongs to the guy downstairs and he came up with the idea when we had to have trays or something to catch falling seed from hitting the ground. Of course the new proclamation is: No Feeders!

And sometimes they duck their head right when I push the shutter button!

When this happens I go practice on this guy until my frustration disappears and I relearn patience.

I like that hawk photo. It is really unique! Headless and still holding on.
