For some reason it always seems disconcerting to me to see ducks sitting in trees. I don't know why; I guess I just expect to see ducks swimming, or walking on land. Any way, here's a couple of wood ducks that stopped by last year to check out the pond.
A few years ago I put up a wood duck nest box in hopes of attracting one of the pairs that stop by for a visit each spring. So far it's been a partial success. One year of wood ducks, and one year of Merlins. In other years it has remained unoccupied.

Wood ducks can sure use a helping hand. The ducks do look silly up in the tree.
