I've been here 16 years. In the past year I had 2 Pileated sightings here for the first time. My trees are mature now. I'm hoping to see more. That must have been really fun to watch the nesting linrose.

A couple of years ago we had a family of 4 coming to the feeders. They were so fun to watch.

A couple of images of water birds today. A local lagoon has the birds from the prairies staying here for the winter. So we have a bufflehead and two female lesser scaup.

Not wooded enough here for the pileated to come visit, but we don't have to go far to see them. We do have red-bellied, downy and hairy and the occasional flicker. Maybe if I keep adding trees to my back yard, the pileated will come?

Today at work I saw a yellow bellied sapsucker, and some field sparrows. I always enjoy picking out different native sparrows, there are so many species and fun to notice their subtle differences.

Yesterday in my yard I had this guy singing his heart out for a girlfriend. First bluebird in the yard this year, though I've been seeing them around town elsewhere since before St Patrick's day.

Beautiful bluebird! We have a nest started in one of our three boxes, I have to check for eggs soon.

Yesterday I saw (heard first!) our first hummingbird of the season. Time to put up the feeder. Luckily the honeysuckle and jessamine are blooming for them now.
