When I lived "Back East". My experience with Ruby-throated was that the nests were very often made with spider silk and lichen. In lots of nest it appeared that the lichen was viable.

With a male Lucifer Hummingbird here yesterday. The agave are just now sending up their asparagus stalk. Still a couple of weeks before they bloom.
Lucifer's use agave as their main source of food. I am seeing all the hummers except the Violet crowned regularly. I am still waiting on the Blue-throated as they breed here.

The midwesterners, northerners, and northeasterners are still waiting. Have you any photos to share?

So sorry I don't have a great set up for hummer photos.

Now I am a happy guy. Finally had my 10th species with the arrival of a male Blue-throated hummingbird.

Now there are 3 more to go. The Plain-capped Starthroat comes when the monsoons begin and flowering of the Plamer agave. The White-eared is still waiting to be a yard bird for me. Last but no least in the Fall the Calliope arrives on the way back to Old Mexico..

I did something incredibly stupid. I'm desperate reading about everyone else being visited and figured it was worth the $15 even if it was tacky looking. Think this may help?

"I am soooooooooooooo jealous!" I knew you would be jealous of my purple plastic hummingbird feeder. It's mine. You can't have it. Oh... did you mean you were jealous of the ten species that he's had visit him already when none of us have had any...

Jeez, EQ, you can be such a nobbie! Yes, I want all 10 of those hummers at MY feeder. Love the plastic though, is that for the less fortunate type of hummer then?

I want all 10 of his too but... I'd be dancing the jig if even one showed up. You don't have to humor me... I know that plastic hummingbird feeder is tacky. If it attracts any hummers it can stay.
