Had they been sitting on eggs?
I noticed a pair of redpolls adding twigs up in my virginia creeper.
Last year as I was trimming the excess around the entry, I accidentally pulled on the wrong vine and down it came...They then moved on elsewhere to build so I'm glad to see their return.

No, they never came back to nest. We'll put out some seed and see if any birds come back. The weather has been ridiculous lately, this week temps from the 30s to 80!
