binoculars Pelagic birding on Lake Erie

I came across this video and thought it was pretty cool. I see a lot of neat birds when I'm out on smaller inland lakes never anything as rare as these species though.

Pelagic is a complicated term for a rather simple concept: the open sea. Birds that live primarily on the open sea rather than on land or inland waters are occasionally referred to as pelagic birds, but that's essentially an interchangeable term with oceanic birds.
Seems they are co-opting the term which is specifically for open ocean birds, although inland waters may have similar birds near inland fresh-water lakes, ponds, rivers which may never venture out to the open sea.
