Owls no stranger to Gulf Coast | Ronnie Blackwell | The Sun Herald
excerpt from above:
The owls I wrote about included the ubiquitous Barred Owl, the Great Horned Owl, our Eastern Screech Owl and the Barn Owl. I set that childhood remembrance in Neshoba County because I was sure the fifth owl, the tiny Northern Saw-Whet Owl, was sometimes heard that far south.

But in the last week, I have discovered a new range map for Northern Saw-Whet Owls put out by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, and this revised map shows Saw-whets wander south all the way to the Mississippi Coast. And recent posts on the birding list serves are extending that range down into Florida.

Why did it take us more than 200 years of Western ornithology before we began to draw an accurate picture of…
The tendency of man's nature to good is like the tendency of water to flow downwards.

Very interesting about our Saw-whets!

But I also favor the Burrowing Owls in south Florida. So interesting and approachable as they sit by their burrows!

Hmmm, last night I could only upload one pic per post from the ipad and now only per post while on the laptop, trying to post urls from one of my web albums. What's up with that?
