Here is the heron again with another one of those 'Pick your own lunch' things. I'm trying to get the name of them from a marine expert.

Could you tell if it was plant or animal? A sea slug? A root?

Hi. I heard back from my marine expert, he said this: a very large polychaete worm. There are some large species that live in the mud and when mature they emerge and spawn in open water as they swim around on the surface. Some can be 30+ cm long.

Kildale, your website reminds me how much I loved BC the two times I've been lucky enough to visit. In another life, I'd be one of the "nearly-deads" flocking to Vancouver Island for retirement.
