Default Male pileated woodpecker.

Have had the female visiting the deck for a few years, but today was the first time I have had the male here.

That is really cool, do you plant natives to attract them to the site. Maybe you can try suit feeders

Great photo kildale! I'm always amazed by the pileated's size, whenever I've seen them in the wild.

The female does not have red on the face.

You are right, I have it on the deck. Here is a hairy feeding a young one on the same log.
