Default Purple Martins in the nieghborhood!!!!

I've noticed some purple martins flying over the nieghborhood the past week my nieghbor across the street has had a group of gourd type boxes up the last few years and I think they are occupying them finally. Hopefully i can get the HOSP's and starlings in check and get my own boxes up soon. I know there is at least half a dozen of them I watched them forcefully escort the local cooper's hawk out of the area the other day it's great to see them!

Congratulations, recurve! What a great sight.

I've never seen them (except in pictures) and understand they can be difficult to attract. I wish you lots of luck.

I was walking my paths (trails?) today and noticed that the bluebirds look almost ready to fledge, I caught the chickadee sitting on her eggs when I opened the box...it seemed to surprise me more than her, and the tree swallows have finished building their nest in the remaining nestbox.

After noticing that there appeared to be FOUR tree swallows that seemed ready to "forcibly escort" ME out of the yard, I decided to put up another nest box. They really didn't do anything me, but I bet once the eggs and or young are there, they will likely do their dive-bombing if I get too close for their liking.

Keep us posted on the purple martins.

Hubby had to chase a baby snatching crow from our martin house!
Saved the poor little fella just in the nick of time or so we'd like to think. He let go of the young-in before he flew off. Hope he wasn't damaged any in the pinch. We didn't notice any aborted chicks on the ground.
