Jack,

I couldn't stand to watch. Seeing the remains is bad enough.

This is probably a GHO (or two). They usually eat larger prey and skunk is high on the list. When I created a large concentration of birds, the owls just had an easy way to feed. This will also allow their normal prey numbers to go up.

This is a big year for rabbits at my place, too. Haven't seen a fox since last year. There are not many cats around to kill the young rabbits, either. Wonder why?

Rabbits everywhere here. I keep thinking that where there is prey that there will be predators. I'm waiting their arrival, though I did hear the coyotes in the yard a few nights ago, raising up sounds like they were banshees.

I know they are why there are no cats in these parts. A cat that is let out in my neighborhood lives less than three months, if he is smart, lucky, and experienced. nevertheless, I have never known a cat to outlive that three month thresh hold. The coyotes favor cats for food, and they are savvy hunters...
