Default Applied Biodiversity Science (ABS)

The integration of theory and practice among three pillars:
multidisciplinary research, collaboration among institutions,
and application to conservation.

Classically trained biologists have a surprising lack of understanding about how biodiversity information can be applied to conservation efforts, or how socioeconomic factors ultimately influence conservation policies.
Conversely, many practitioners in sustainable development, ecotourism, and other strategies for conservation are uninformed on basic
theories in ecology such as species area relationships, diversity gradients, and speciation.
The ABS approach is intended to produce conservation scientists who know how to communicate effectively across disciplinary boundaries, and can make their research applicable to on-the-ground conservation through long-term collaborations.
