I know we get a bad rap in the news here in Chicago and other major urban areas. But so many good people are working to improve the wilder areas and have been for many years. Long enough that a difference is showing. More and more people care about having green functional ecosystems throughout the region. We are very lucky to have had the Lakefront property and the ring of forest preserves kept open to the public and seen as an asset.
Below is a link to a short documentary video that you might enjoy. Don't let old information about politics cloud your view of what is a definite treasure in Cook County these days. It may not be wilderness but it is worth the effort and funding. Here's to next 100 years! https://vimeo.com/167811675 |

Isn't it great to hear the Forest Preserves does not spray for mosquitoes? Maybe they should not be telling the general population that information. I just know those living along the edges bitch about having to deal with them.
Long sleeves and pants when working in the habitat and a screened gazebo out back for sitting at dusk is how we keep pests at bay. But a fogger through the street and ally a couple of times a summer does reduce our insect populations and you hear the moderator explain that in the video. So many people try to tell us that the spray does not hurt other insects. |
