Sigh. I don't know what to think. Part of me thinks that the beloved and iconic monarch butterfly's threatened existence should be enough to bring people to support preservation...and preservation of the habitat as a whole. The other part of me fears we truly do have "an ethical and even moral hurdle " to overcome...and that it won't be easy. Surely, more and more people are aware of the issues more now than ever with the honeybees and now the monarchs becoming more and more in the public eye/awareness.

I would say this is only a problem for the Progressives. It obviously doesn't seem to matter to governmental leadership & those that support it. As a Progressive, I have had been astonished by the neoconservative leadership stance when encountering such issues. Be it 350 ppm CO2, or 'starwars evesdropping/space trash', Milton Friedman destruction economics, Fracking, The Death zone in the Gulf of Mexico, etc...these type progressive issues are just that...irrelevant issues.
As long as the leadership of The US Congress insists on this direction, fully supported by the Executive & Judicial branches, further avoidance, excuses, and out right opposition to basic fair standards of governance then I too shall die with a broken heart, as so many others have before me. ww

Wow, wildwatcher. Very powerful response.
Seeing so many issues listed together hit me...but "the death zone in the Gulf" *really* hit me. Not that I was unaware of it, but the fact that it continues as we continue to dump so much --- into the Gulf of Mexico *is* very disheartening. Quote:
