Bridget, do you have purple milkweed (Asclepias purpurascens) growing on your property? If so, when it is young does it look like common milkweed (Asclepias syriaca). I have purchased three milkweed that said purple milkweed, but then, when I got home, I found common milkweed tags deep in the soil. They are seedlings, and the only comment I can make on them is that the color of the leaves is a deeper green that what I'm accustomed to with common milkweed that I've had in the past.
