HA HA I didn't even realize this thread was so old! Bitternuts have very small and bitter tasting nuts but I believe they are still eaten by squirrels and such but are the least desirable of the hickories. Thats the way I remembered the latin name for my dendrology classes cordiformis is only good for cord wood.
